Resumes
What will my resume look like?
Your resume is unique to you. There is not a single format that works well for everyone. It’s dependent on many different factors from your experience to your field. A resume for someone who isn’t in the workforce for very long or has gaps will look different from a resume for someone who has extensive experience. A technical resume will look different than one for someone in retail. However, regardless of the style, there are certain things that all resumes should have in common. Concise, readable, well organized and professional. In addition, with automatic software to scan resumes, there are other tricks you can use to increase your chances of standing out from the countless resumes that recruiters, HR and the hiring manager receive.
The information is provided by you, only you know what your educational, work history and goals are. But I’ll guide you through the process, and by asking questions will help you to provide the content needed. I’ll be asking questions to jog your memory and discover common threads, then articulate it in a way that will be attractive to screeners and hiring managers.
Interviews
What should I expect for the video interview?
To replicate an actual interview as accurately as possible, I will treat you as if I was actually considering hiring you for the position. In return, it is important for you to interact with me not as someone preparing you for an interview, but as if it were actually your interview. To prepare you, I will be asking difficult questions, poke at your resume, and trying to see how you handle different scenarios. It’s normal to feel some pressure or stress. That’s normal for interviews so the goal is to get have that with me so that when you get to the actual interview, you’re more experienced.
How should I dress for the video interview?
You should dress as you plan to for the actual interview so feedback can be given for appearance and video quality and feedback. This is not required, however if you’d like to skip this feedback.
What is the screening call?
The screening call can be from a recruiter or from HR. It’s essentially to decide whether to pass along your resume to the hiring manager. Basic topics are likely to be covered here, and assuming you meet any black and white requirements, you’re likely to make it through with a little coaching.
